Mahira Khan: Dramas, Films and a Career in Two Industries

Mahira Khan biography

Mahira Khan does not make much television; most years she makes none. When she does return, the serial tends to set the agenda for the season, and that has held from Humsafar in 2011 to Mitti De Baway in September 2026.

Geo News marked her 40th birthday on 21 December 2024, which puts her birth date at 21 December 1984. She grew up in Karachi and started as a video jockey on MTV Pakistan before Shoaib Mansoor cast her in a supporting role in his film Bol (2011). The News reported on that film at the time.

In the same year she played Khirad Ehsan opposite Fawad Khan in Humsafar (HUM TV), the Farhat Ishtiaq adaptation that became a phenomenon across South Asia. She won the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress (Satellite) for it. Two more serials, Shehr-e-Zaat (2012) and Sadqay Tumhare (2014), brought HUM Awards for best actress. Dawn reported both.

From 2015 cinema took over. The Express Tribune and Images Dawn record Lux Style Awards for Bin Roye, Ho Mann Jahaan, Verna and Superstar. After Raees (2017) opposite Shah Rukh Khan she was barred from promoting the film in India because of political tensions, The Express Tribune reported. She came back to television in 2021 with Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, and Images Dawn praised her performance as Mehreen.
