Lodhran District is one of the 41 districts of Punjab, with its headquarters at Lodhran. It has 3 tehsils: Dunyapur, Kahror Pacca and Lodhran. The 2023 census counted 1,928,299 people on 2,778 km², and 51.68% of residents aged 10 and over were literate.

Lodhran is Multan’s younger file. Until 1991 it was a tehsil of Multan District. The river on the south is the Sutlej. The name is a tribe: Lodhra. When the British cut a tehsil here on 5 May 1883, zaildar Malik Ghulam Hussain Lodhra offered the word and it stuck.

Siddique Khan Kanju — minister of state for foreign affairs under Nawaz Sharif; killed at his Kahror Pakka farmhouse in July 2001. Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju has held the NA seat and served as minister of state for overseas Pakistanis.
Jahangir Khan Tareen — agribusiness, federal industries minister, later PTI organiser; Lodhran by-elections in 2015 and 2018 became national stories. Ali Tareen has carried the surname into later races.
Siddique Khan Baloch — PML-N, 2018 by-election winner, 2024 winner from Lodhran-II.
Also on the sheet: Nawab Amanullah Khan (2002), Mirza Nasir Baig (PPP), Mian Muhammad Shafiq Arain, Zawar Hussain Warraich, Rao Sardar Ali Khan (later IGP Punjab). Yousaf Raza Gillani won Lodhran in 1985; the Gillani house remains Multan’s.

The 7th Population and Housing Census (2023) by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) counted 1,928,299 people in Lodhran District — 997,846 males and 930,336 females (sex ratio 107.26 males per 100 females). The 2017 census had counted 1,699,693, so the district gained 228,606 people in six years (difference calculated from the two PBS totals), an average annual growth rate of 2.13%. The district covers 2,778 km², giving a density of 694.13 people per km²; 16.86% of residents live in urban areas and the average household has 5.9 members.

PBS reports a literacy rate (age 10+) of 51.68% for Lodhran District: 60.63% for males and 42.12% for females, 67.34% in urban areas against 48.40% in rural areas. Of 1,385,693 residents aged 10 and over, 716,142 were literate. The census also counted 214,246 children aged 5–16 who were out of school (108,815 boys and 105,429 girls).
